July...Visit to Lake Placid

One of the sweetest ladies in our Sunday School Class moved to lake Placid...it's about a 2.5hr ride, so 4 of us went for a Saturday visit. Lake Placid is known for all the murals painted on the buildings...they area amazing. Several yrs ago this little town was hurting and needed a financial boost. A couple that lived there part time had visited a town out west that needed some help and came up with the mural idea...it worked, so the couple went into action in Lake Placid....With over 47 murals we had plenty to see.
We picked up Marge and headed to downtown Main St for lunch. The place we'd hoped to go had just closed, so thankfully we found another. Not too much to pick from, was a VERY quiet day.
After lunch we drove around to see the murals...just awesome....

Just a really fascinating town...  Lake Placid Murals

First one as we were coming into town on Main Street....you can buy a book at the local Walgreens that will explain them all...

Even the public garbage cans were painted...

Loved this one....they were all so good.

This mini truck was great...

Loved these that were about the Trail to Eagle Scout....

Murals on 2 bldgs with a garden between them...so cool

Lake Placid is also ...THE CALADIUM CAPITOL OF THE WORLD...you can see some here. We didn't get to see any actual fields of them, but we'll come back..

There were even speakers on this wall for sound effects...

Caladium Fields....

The Post Office got in on the action too..

One very quiet, empty little town.

Even had paintings on Walgreens...

On the school....

On some warehouses, just off Main St....they were all over.

After our ride around town we went back to Marge's place for a nice visit, then headed home. Easy rides...FL countryside, lots of pasture and cows in the middle of the state....
Enjoyed a chili dinner at Skyline and said goodbye. Had been a fun day....thanks Marge, we'll see you again.
