Denny and Allan were first up on the swinging bridge....
It's a beautiful nature preserve......we took a really nice walk around.
Folks were having a wonderful....and jumping off the bridge....
We left the dam and drove over to what used to be a General Store, but is now a museum.
These old pictures told the story about the store. When it opened, closed and the many things the building had been after it was a store
What a lovely ride. Then we headed home it was time to let Allan and Nancy do some packing and house things....they both headed out in the morning, we headed on for more fun. So, we drove into town to do a little touring on our own....
We headed for the old jail and school house.....
You knew I'd have to try it out.........
This was a family outhouse...big holes and little holes....how nice.
Can you see some of the old shackles on the table??
Not sure this would have been too comfortable, esp when the mattress was made of straw and likely had bugs in it....thus the saying...don't let the bed bugs bite!!!
Games......
Tough bars...look how thick the walls are.
One heavy door........
Then one unlucky prisoner would have to empty the bucket....it was a wonderful tour. We then headed to the school via the cemetary...wow...some really old things there.
Some of the wording on the headstones was great.
Now for the old school house...it was used 1755-1850. Children ages 5-21 attended. The months of good weather many of the older children were working at home, during the winter months it was very crowded.
Pretty old student....guess he needs some extra help!!!
They used these slates for writing and math.
Beautiful old fireplace and old desk....
This wall time clock explained a lot...we didn't get to see all these things...a reason to come back.
Then we went through the old Tavern
Although much of the furniture is not from the Tavern..it is from that time period.
Beautifil bar.....
How it may have been set-up.........
Cooking and drying of herbs and spices...
Next we went upstairs to see the photography of Emma Louis Coleman...she took photos of this area that truly told a story of how things were.
I really like some of them and the stories about them..
This has always been a lobstering town...
A pet bear....can you say Jeremia Johnson....
We'd had quite the education and really enjoyed seeing all this....next, we rode through town just a bit and got a few pictures.....
This is the place where I played skee ball..........
This place is famous ..Goldenrods has been around since 1896...they are famous for their "kisses"...saltwater taffy...it is yummy. The inside of the store is like an old soda fountain counter. You can also sit at a table...is very cool
The taffu making machine in the window.......
The tide in this part of the country is amazing...in FL we have a small tide compared to this....these boats will be floating like normal when the tide comes in....it's really wild. And during high tide folks jump off this bridge into the water....wow!!
Love all the colorful lobster trap buoys
Very amazing tide.......
After we got back to the house we had a wonderful BBQ rib dinner...Denny loved it down by the water and close to the rock wall....one more look....
Dinner was delish....then we had a little time to visit, then it was time for bed....we all had an early morning.
We slept great and were up and out the next morning....time for us to drive up the coast and see more...
Thanks Nancy and Allan we had a wonderful time and appreciate all your hospitality.
