Al and Denny did a great job of driving ......
As we went further north,,,,,we could see the snow........
Tons of snow at the Lodge.......
When we arrived you could see the mountains in the distance....but barely.
The Timberline Lodge was beautiful........and was built so many years ago.
When you walk in, you are on the ground level where there is a museum like area where you can watch a film and see things from when the lodge was built. The film was really good, then we walked around a bit.
These were tools used when the lodge was being built.
This bench used to be a wheel barrow...cool
There have been many famous movies made here....
The lodge has always has a St. Bernard as a mascot...this is Bruno Vll......he was so friendly.
Plans and tools used during the building....
This grate was made when the lodge was made and is still being used.....
This chair was built for President Roosevelt when he came and dedicated the lodge.
This is a sample of how a guest room used to look....
This was a beautiful tile piece hanging on the wall...it's been there from the beginning.
Bruno's beginnings.......
These carved end pieces were all done when it was built.
Then upstairs is the lodge foyer and it was gorgeous.
Lots of wood and rock.......
It was lunch time and the buffet looked wonderful....but it was beginning to snow, so Uncle Al said we'd better head back down the mountain.....maybe next time.
Beautiful carving of a mountain cat....I'm sure they are roaming in the area.
This door was massive.....the lock alone was VERY heavy.
More carvings...so much detail....
It looked like this window used to go to the outside and that there has been an extention that now makes it an interior window....but it's beautiful.
Two more stair rail carvings....well done
The lights and all the fixtures were rustic and heavy duty, built to last for sure....
The inside of the front door.....beautiful.
This was the only bar in the lodge, but it was closed...another reason to come back!!!
Time to head for the car....a chilly/wet walk...
This was a multi-purpose building across from the lodge
This pole was to measure the snow....as it get higher and higher the plows know where to go.
They had a different view on the way down.....
After a quick stop at McDomald's at the bottom of the mountain we headed home....what a great day.
We never expected to really see snow. We'll come back one day and stay in the lodge!!!
